Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippopotamus, and Melman the giraffe are still trying to get back to their native New York City after being stranded on Madagascar. Their plane crashes in the African savanna, where they meet other members of their species, including Alex's parents. Alex struggles to reconcile his pampered zoo life with his wild upbringing, while the other animals face their own challenges and adventures in this new, untamed environment.
