In 1962, during the Cold War, mutants are still a myth to the world. CIA agent Moira MacTaggert discovers a plot by a powerful mutant named Sebastian Shaw to incite nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union. She recruits a brilliant young telepath, Charles Xavier, and a gifted mutant, Erik Lehnsherr, to help her stop Shaw.
