In the quaint, but suspiciously accident-prone village of Lower Crumpling, a series of bizarre and fatal 'accidents' befalls its most eccentric residents. Detective Inspector Bartholomew Bumble, a man whose deductive reasoning is as questionable as his tweed suit, is called in to unravel the mystery. With the help of the hyper-efficient, yet perpetually exasperated, Constable Penelope Piffle, Bumble stumbles through a labyrinth of red herrings, misinterpretations, and outright absurdity, all while the body count inexplicably rises.
