Professor Andrew Bobileff leads a quiet and withdrawn life with his daughter Anja. Then, out of the blue, he is accused of taking part in a conspiracy against the government. Anja flees to the capital, finds work as an actress at the court theatre and becomes engaged to fellow actor Jean Fort.
