A simple Soviet truck driver named Semyon Semenych Gorbunkov goes on a business trip to a foreign country. Unbeknownst to him, this trip is a setup by a criminal organization who are attempting to smuggle diamonds into the country hidden inside plaster casts. Semyon accidentally gets his arm put in a plaster cast and becomes entangled in their illicit operations.
