In Nazi-occupied Paris, a German resistance fighter assumes the identity of a dead Jewish writer to escape the city. He plans to flee to America, but becomes entangled in the lives of the writer's former lover and his friends, who are waiting for him to help them escape as well. As he navigates his dangerous charade, he must decide whether to maintain his deception or risk everything to help others.
