Insights
Plot Summary
A charmingly quirky scientist, Dr. Frankie Stone, designs a hyper-realistic android, Ulysses, to prove that even a robot can find love. However, when Ulysses escapes his creator's control, he finds himself interacting with the real world and, more surprisingly, developing genuine feelings for Frankie. Chaos ensues as Frankie tries to retrieve her runaway creation before his advanced programming causes irreparable damage or, worse, he falls irrevocably in love.
Critical Reception
Making Mr. Right was met with a generally mixed to negative reception from critics, with many finding its premise amusing but underdeveloped. While the performances of the lead actors, particularly Anna Faris, were often cited as a highlight, the film struggled to deliver on its comedic and romantic potential, often resorting to predictable plot devices and a lack of genuine chemistry.
What Reviewers Say
- Anna Faris's comedic timing is a saving grace for the film.
- The 'robot learning to love' trope feels overly familiar and lacks originality.
- Despite a few clever moments, the plot is too predictable and misses opportunities for deeper humor.
Google audience: Audiences found the film to be a lighthearted and somewhat amusing romantic comedy, appreciating Anna Faris's performance. However, many felt the story was too formulaic and lacked the spark to make it truly memorable, with some finding the humor to be hit-or-miss.
Fun Fact
The android Ulysses was designed to be indistinguishable from a human, leading to comedic situations where his perfect, emotionless responses contrast with the messy reality of human interaction.
