A successful American engineer, Guy Holden, is in love with Mimi Glossop, who is trapped in a marriage with the much older, stuffy Cyril. Mimi's aunt, Hortense, is convinced Cyril is having an affair and hires a co-respondent to help Mimi with a divorce. Unbeknownst to Mimi, Guy is mistaken for the co-respondent and gets caught up in the scheme, leading to a series of hilarious misunderstandings and romantic entanglements.
