In 1870s New Mexico, a powerful and eccentric patriarch, T.C. Jeffords, is disowned by his family after a bitter argument. He takes refuge in his sprawling rancho, 'The Furies', where he is cared for by his adopted daughter, Vance Jeffords. As T.C. begins to lose his grip on his vast estate and his sanity, Vance must contend with his scheming legitimate children and protect the ranch from their avarice.
The Furies received a mixed to positive reception upon its release, with many critics praising Barbara Stanwyck's powerhouse performance and the film's dark, atmospheric tone. While not a box office smash, it has since been recognized as a significant entry in Anthony Mann's filmography and a complex psychological Western.
