It also delves into the present day where the Joker unleashes his twisted plan on Gordon and his daughter Barbara.
The film received a mixed to positive reception, with praise for its animation and voice acting, particularly Mark Hamill's return as the Joker. However, it faced significant controversy and criticism for its controversial additions to the story, particularly the extended prologue involving Batgirl, which many felt was unnecessary and detracted from the original graphic novel's focus.

Criticized for controversial and divisive additions to the narrative, especially the Batgirl storyline.
Animation and visual style are generally well-regarded.
Google audience: Google users generally appreciated the film's dark tone and the performances, especially Mark Hamill's iconic Joker. However, many expressed disappointment and disagreement with the expanded Batgirl prologue, finding it gratuitous and not in line with the spirit of the original comic.
