A down-on-his-luck trumpet player known as 'Happy' finds himself in a dangerous predicament when he falls for Lily, a mysterious woman who performs as a bird-woman in a traveling circus. Their burgeoning romance is complicated by the arrival of a mobster named Sammy, who believes Happy owes him a significant debt.
