In a small town in Washington State, teenagers wake up one morning to find their city occupied by North Korean soldiers. A group of young survivors, calling themselves the Wolverines, form a resistance movement to fight back against the invasion.

Critical Reception

The 2012 remake of Red Dawn was met with largely negative reviews from critics and audiences, with many finding it to be a poorly executed and unnecessary reimagining of the original film. Its action sequences were often criticized as generic, and the plot was deemed predictable and lacking depth.

What Reviewers Say

  • Despite a modern update and a new geopolitical context, the film struggles to deliver compelling action or a believable narrative.
  • Critics pointed out the uneven pacing and a lack of character development, making it hard to invest in the young protagonists' struggle.
  • The film was often described as a shallow imitation of its predecessor, failing to capture the same intensity or cultural relevance.

Google audience: Audience reviews indicate disappointment with the remake, with many feeling it lacked the impact and originality of the 1984 version. Common complaints include a predictable plot, uninspired action, and a failure to create engaging characters.

Fun Fact

The film's original trailer featured North Korean forces, but due to the real-world political climate at the time of its release, the invaders were digitally altered to be Chinese soldiers. However, this change was reversed in subsequent releases and home media, with the invaders identified as North Korean once again.
