Biography
Myles Breen is the best known Panto performer in Ireland. A local of Limerick City, At a young age Breen was exposed to the arts by his mother, Bridie, who had a love of theatre, music and dancing and who encouraged his creativity. Having completed a degree in Commerce in University College Cork, Breen decided acting was the route he wanted to take. With great success in his professional life Myles Breen moved back to Limerick after spending 13 years living and working in Dublin. On returning to Limerick he then went one step further as Bottom Dog Theatre Company was set up in late 2008 with Liam O’Brien, Mike Burke and Mike Finn. The company has been nominated for several national awards, including two Irish Times Theatre Awards. On top of everything else this incredible man also works with the Daughters of Charity and Limerick Youth Theatre. Myles Breen curated alongside Katarína Mojžišová and acted as mentor as part of a collaboration project between Daughters of Charity (DOC) and Limerick Youth Theatre (LYT) called The Creative Show presents Channel Surfing. The project allowed service users of DOC interested in theatre and dance to experience the process of auditions, rehearsals, performing and production. Myles Breen has written numerous plays such as ‘The Bachelor of Kilkish’, an excellent play which ran for three nights in the Lime Tree Theatre and also in Kilmallock and Kilkee. In 2014 Myles Breen was honoured with the Limerick Person of the Month award for his outstanding contribution to the arts in the Mid-West region. In 2015 he was awarded Best Actor at Origins First Irish Festival, where he showcased his one man play ‘Language Unbecoming A Lady’.
