The story takes place in the summer of 1978. Xiang Yuan's ambition is to become a chef, but his father, who is a teacher, wants his son to take the university entrance exam. Just when Xiang Yuan was having the most problems with his family because of his future, he meets the beautiful Mai Qiu. Mai Qiu's mother has engaged her but Mai Qiu's mind is focused on her student life. These two people with completely opposite life paths fall in love with each other. Although their parents are strongly opposed to their relationship, they don't give up.
