In the present day, a massive black object, the "Earth Cube," is unearthed during a dam construction project. Upon contact, it emits a powerful energy pulse, awakening ancient, colossal mechanical beings known as "Gauna." Suddenly, a young boy named Kenichi encounters a mysterious girl named Yukina who has been in cryo-sleep for 100 years. Yukina pilots a powerful mecha called the "Helmwige," and together with Kenichi, they must defend Earth from the alien Gauna.
