A Joseon-era county magistrate's son, Kim Dam-ryeong, encounters a mermaid and helps her escape capture. Centuries later, in modern-day Seoul, Shim Chung, a mermaid, washes ashore and is found by Heo Joon-jae, a charismatic con artist who resembles Kim Dam-ryeong. As Shim Chung tries to adapt to human life and find her lost mother, she and Joon-jae develop a complex and fated romance, unaware of their past lives' connection and the dangers that threaten them.
