Plot Summary

Following his successful foray into news anchoring, Evan Baxter is unexpectedly elected to Congress. He soon receives a divine calling from God to build an ark and prepare for a great flood. Initially dismissive, Evan finds himself compelled to obey, much to the bewilderment of his family and colleagues, as animals begin to appear and his appearance starts to change.

Critical Reception

Evan Almighty received largely negative reviews from critics, with many finding the humor uninspired and the plot derivative of its predecessor, 'Bruce Almighty'. While some appreciated Steve Carell's performance and the film's good-natured intentions, the majority felt it lacked the wit and charm of the original.

What Reviewers Say

  • Steve Carell's comedic talent is underutilized in a predictable and often unfunny script.

  • The film leans heavily on a simplistic, family-friendly moralizing that feels preachy.

  • While visually impressive with the ark construction, the story fails to deliver substantial laughs or narrative depth.

Google audience: Audiences found the film to be a harmless and occasionally funny family movie, though many agreed it was not as strong as 'Bruce Almighty' and criticized its slow pacing and repetitive gags.

Fun Fact

The film featured over 200,000 pounds of artificial fur and over 7,000 gallons of prosthetic "mud" for the flood scenes.
