In the aftermath of the Civil War, Vance Reno and his brothers are mistakenly informed that Vance's younger brother, Clint, has been killed in a skirmish. In reality, Clint is alive and well, having just returned home. However, upon hearing the news, Vance's sweetheart, Cathy, marries Clint. Vance returns home heartbroken and must confront his feelings while dealing with a local land dispute with the greedy Mr. Vance.
