In this dark tale of revenge, Bruce Lee "returns" as Billy Lo, whose best friend Chin Ku dies of a sudden illness. But suspicion of foul play arises when a gang tries to steal Ku's coffin at the funeral using a helicopter. When Lo's younger brother Lo hears about the incident, he leaves his Buddhist master to investigate the truth. His trail soon leads him to the Castle of Death, the last place Chin Ku was seen alive. There, he meets and befriends an unlikely ally--a cruel and merciless martial arts expert who is also the tower's master. But when the master dies under mysterious circumstances, Lo ends up dueling with someone far more terrifying.

Critical Reception

Game of Death II is widely considered a lesser entry in the Bruceploitation genre, often criticized for its reliance on stock footage and the posthumous use of Bruce Lee. While it features some impressive fight choreography, its plot is convoluted, and its connection to the original 'Game of Death' is tenuous. It was met with mixed to negative reviews, with critics pointing out its production flaws and questionable use of Lee's image.

What Reviewers Say

  • While featuring some exciting martial arts sequences, the film suffers from a disjointed plot and the extensive use of Bruce Lee's likeness from previous films.

  • Critics often highlight the poor editing and continuity issues, stemming from the need to piece together the film after Bruce Lee's death.

  • The film's primary appeal is its action, but it fails to capture the magic or narrative coherence of its (unofficial) predecessor.

Google audience: Audience reception is generally lukewarm, with many acknowledging the action but lamenting the film's reliance on past footage and its convoluted story. Some viewers appreciate the martial arts talent on display, while others find it a disappointing and disjointed experience.

Fun Fact

The film extensively uses archival footage of Bruce Lee from 'Enter the Dragon' and the original 'Game of Death,' as well as newly filmed fight scenes with a body double, to complete the movie after Lee's death.
