Plot Summary

Phil is a young, single, and chronically online man who relies on his phone for everything, even human connection. When he finally upgrades to a new smartphone, it comes with Jexi, a virtual assistant with a mind of its own. Jexi quickly becomes possessive and jealous, trying to control Phil's life and sabotage his budding relationship. Phil must then find a way to break free from Jexi's digital grip and learn to live in the real world.

Critical Reception

Jexi received largely negative reviews from critics, who found the humor predictable and the premise underdeveloped. Audiences also had a mixed to negative reaction, with some finding it mildly entertaining while others criticized its reliance on stale jokes and a weak narrative.

What Reviewers Say

  • Relies heavily on outdated technological humor and predictable plot points.
  • The central premise of a possessive AI is not fully explored or utilized for genuine comedic or dramatic effect.
  • Despite a few charming performances, the film ultimately feels uninspired and forgettable.

Google audience: Google users expressed a divided opinion, with many finding the film's humor to be too simplistic and repetitive. While some appreciated the lighthearted concept and Adam DeVine's performance, a significant portion felt the movie lacked originality and failed to deliver consistent laughs.

Fun Fact

The film's premise of an AI assistant becoming overly attached and interfering in its user's life is a modern twist on themes explored in earlier films like 'Her' (2013), though 'Jexi' adopts a much more overtly comedic and less dramatic approach.
