Plot Summary

A group of young adults are excited to attend a "Pleasure Island" resort, a Caribbean island getaway promising endless fun and relaxation. However, their tropical dream vacation quickly turns into a nightmare when a mysterious killer begins picking them off one by one in increasingly gruesome ways. As the body count rises, the remaining guests and staff must band together to unmask the murderer before they all become victims.

Critical Reception

Club Dread, also known as Broken Lizard's Club Dread, received generally mixed to negative reviews from critics. While some appreciated its low-brow humor and B-movie slasher parody elements, many found the comedy repetitive and the horror aspects lacking in genuine scares. Audiences were somewhat more receptive, enjoying the crude jokes and the ensemble's comedic chemistry.

What Reviewers Say

  • Relies heavily on crude and juvenile humor typical of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe.
  • The slasher parody elements are present but often fall flat, lacking originality or suspense.
  • The film's enjoyment largely depends on the viewer's tolerance for absurd and often gross-out comedy.

Google audience: Google users generally found the film to be a fun, albeit silly, comedy with some entertaining gags. Many appreciated the ensemble cast's comedic timing and the lighthearted approach to the horror genre, though some felt the humor was too one-note.

Fun Fact

The film's original title was 'The Slammin' Salmon', but it was changed to 'Club Dread' to capitalize on the popularity of the slasher subgenre and to avoid confusion with the 2004 film 'Club Dread' starring Carmen Electra.

Doesn't hold a candle to Broken Lizards magnum opus: _Super Troopers_, but still an entertaining movie. _Club Dread_ leans real damn hard into the "comedy" side of this horror/comedy, but that was probably the better way to play Broken Liza...
